Picture-in-Picture mode not working? Try some of these tips

The picture-in-picture mode feature is a very helpful feature on iOS 14. This feature can make it easier for users to watch videos on Netflix while doing other things, such as opening social media, browsing, or other things.

However, in certain cases, the picture-in-picture feature may not be displayed. For this reason, in this article, you will find some tips that you can apply when you have problems with the picture-in-picture feature on iPhone.

Check the application compatibility

The first thing you need to know is that not all video player apps support the picture-in-picture feature. Even popular apps like YouTube don't support this feature at the time of writing this article.

Here are some apps I have tried so far that can use the picture-in-picture feature:

  • Apple TV
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Disney+
  • Disney+ Hotstar
  • FaceTime
  • Firefox
  • Firefox Focus
  • DuckDuckGo
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • MLB
  • HBO Go
  • HBO Max: Stream TV and movies
  • Hulu: Stream movies and TV shows
  • The NBC app - stream TV shows
  • Netflix
  • Safari
  • Shazam

Make sure that the picture-in-picture mode is enabled

  • Go to the settings.
  • Tap on the General option.
  • Tap on the picture-in-picture option.
  • Tap (On) on the "Start PiP automatically" option.
  • Or if the previous position was "On", you can turn this feature off and then turn it back on to restart.

Restart iPhone

This is the easiest thing to do when you have problems with your iPhone, regardless of what the problem is. Go to "Settings" > "General", swipe down and tap on the "Shutdown" option. Swipe from left to right to turn off the iPhone.

Update or reinstall the application

If the picture-in-picture feature doesn't work in a particular application, you can try checking for updates for that application (if any). Or you can delete the application and then download it again.

Update to the latest version of iOS (if any).

Make sure the iPhone has the latest version can be a problem solver, as Apple usually fixes the problem users have by updating iOS.

Reset iPhone

This can be the last resort if all the above methods don't help. This method resets all settings to the initial state and deletes all existing apps and data. Before using this method, make sure you have backed up your data to iCloud or iTunes.

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.

These are some options you can take if you have problems with the picture-in-picture feature. If you have another option, be sure to share it via the comment column.
